Hello -
I wanted to take a quick moment to cover our backup policy as it relates to our shared web hosting and reseller servers. In the early morning hours (local time) we run a backup that includes your home directory, database(s), web logs, email etc. among other things. We have a dedicated disk based backup mechanism which securely stores our backups, off server, for between 7 - 14 days, depending on available disk space on the backup server.
We have been noticing that customers are more frequently using the cpanel backup tool to create backups, but end up leaving those backups on the server for extended periods of time (years in some cases). Storing your backup on the same server as hosting your account only serves to increase the time it takes us to do the daily backup and increases the amount of disk space used on our backup server.
We highly encourage all customers to perform regular and frequent backups of important data. Once your backup is complete please ftp that backup off to a secure location and delete the backup file from the server.
