What hardware does your VPS/VDS provider use?
We use enterprise proven, high end Dell PowerEdge™ servers exclusively throughout our network. The details of our servers are below in the FAQ.
How much memory is your VPS/VDS company using in it's servers?
Typical is 4GB. Myriad Network uses 12GB standard in all VPS/VDS servers. The result is higher levels of performance and reliability for your VDS solution.
Is support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
Many companies 'claim' support is available. Give them a call in the early morning hours and see if a live person answers, then call us.
More importantly, when you email support do you receive a complete, comprehensive answer that you can understand? Email us, anytime at support@myriadnetwork.com.
Is your company local to the hardware your VPS/VDS is running on?
Sometimes remote hands and eyes aren’t enough. While some other companies are at the mercy of their datacenter or provider to affect repairs when something breaks we here at Myriad Network are local to the datacenter to maintain our servers and make repairs as needed.
Does your company own the physical hardware?
While other companies may rent or lease equipment from a third party, Myriad Network owns every single piece of hardware on our network. From the Cisco (http://www.cisco.com/)
6500, 3750 and 2950 switches passing the packets, to the Dell (http://www.dell.com/) PowerEdge (http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/rack_optimized?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd)™ enterprise servers hosting your solution we own every piece of gear.
Is the Service Level Agreement (http://looselycoupled.com/glossary/SLA) (SLA) available online (http://www.myriadnetwork.com/legal/sla.php) in an easy to understand format?
Myriad Network provides (http://www.myriadnetwork.com/legal/sla.php) a clear, easy to read SLA that is devoid of legal ease and double talk. Simple put, we guarantee your website or hosting solution will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If we fail to meet this we compensate you with a 1 day credit for every hour of downtime.
Does your hosting company charge you to restore a backup?
This seems a little absurd to us, but we've heard from customers that some companies do. We don't.
Does your company offer 'open' customer forums for everyone to see?
Some companies close their forums. Why don’t they want you to see what their customers are saying? At Myriad Network you can see every post (unedited) starting from the launch date of our forums in January of 2005.
Does your company pay you for referrals?
Myriad Network believes in rewarding (http://www.myriadnetwork.com/affiliates/) it's customers to referring friends, family and associates. We pay a generous referral regardless of the hosting solution selected. Even if you’re not a Myriad Network customer we will still pay you for referring new customers.
Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)
Q. What are the hardware specifications of your VDS servers?
A. Our servers are enterprise Dell Power Edge machines with:
- 2x dual core Intel Xeon Processors
- 2x 36/73GB 10/15K SAS SCSI (http://www.seagate.com/specials/sac/flash/) Drives (mirrored)
*NEW - 4x 146GB - 300GB 10/15K SAS SCSI (http://www.seagate.com/specials/sac/flash/) Drives (RAID 10 (http://www.acnc.com/04_01_10.html))
- dual power supplies
- LSI Logic based RAID Controller with 256MB of onboard cache
- 12GB RAM
- dual 10/100/1000 network controllers (one Internet facing, the second for backups)
- Dell 24x7, 4 hour onsite SLA
Q. Is the VDS a managed service?
A. As you retain full root access to your VDS you also accept responsibilities for the day to day operations. We provide the following:
- Backups are conducted on a daily basis
- Operating system support for major components including Apache, PHP, MySQL, Bind, Qmail, Exim and Sendmail
- Control panel support for Cpanel/WHM and Webmin
- Relevant security updates and notices posted via our customer forum
- 24x7 technical support, helpdesk, customer forums & knowledge base
*NEW - We now offer per incident support for issues not covered by our standard support. Per incident support is available for $15 per issue which provides for up to 30 minutes of tier 3 system administration support.
10/29/2006 - Fully managed VDS - more information here - http://forums.myriadnetwork.com/showthread.php?p=685#post685
Q. Do you support third party scripts.
A. No. We cannot possibly have knowledge of every script or program available. If you run into difficulties we are more than happy to assist you in troubleshooting.
Q. Do you perform backups?
A. Yes. Backups are performed daily. We maintain 2 full sets of backups spanning a total of 14 days.
Q. Do you offer customized VDS plans?
A. Yes. Please email sales@myriadnetwork.com with your requirements and we will respond - typically within 4 - 6 hours.
Q. How much CPU can I really expect?
A. Generally speaking you can expect to see the full speed of both processors minus the slight overhead imposed by Virtuozzo. We maintain each VDS at less than 10% utilization giving you and your customers the availability to 'burst' when needed. If a VDS becomes too CPU intensive the Virtuozzo software allows us to transfer that account to another physical server with about 10 seconds of downtime.
Q. So your saying we can expect both processors available when needed?
A. Yes. We do _not_ overload our servers. We work hard to provide you a solid product at an affordable price. We depend on your referrals and would never place your account on an overcrowded server. It isn't worth loosing a customer just to make a couple extra dollars by cramming accounts on an at capacity machine.
Q. How many accounts do you put on each server?
A. The amount per physical server varies based on the existing customers on that server and the resources they require. You will _not_ see an over crowded VDS. We want you as a customer long term
We have metrics which govern memory, CPU and network utilization among other resources we monitor. Generally speaking if we see the utilization at or above 10% for a 10 minute period we stop adding accounts to that server. With Virtuozzo we can easily move accounts between servers with just 10 - 30 seconds of downtime.
Q. How much bandwidth is available to the VDS?
A. The physical server is allocated 100 - 1000Mbps. You can expect to see at or near the maximum. As an example - from one of our VDS servers:
mirrors.secsup.org:
ncftp ...t/updates/9/en/os/i386 > get kernel-2.4.20-28.9.i386.rpm
kernel-2.4.20-28.9.i386.rpm: 12.70 MB 8.06 MB/s
ftp.aol.com (ftp://ftp.aol.com/)
ncftp /aim/win95 > get Install_AIM59.exe
Install_AIM59.exe: 8.11 MB 31.25 MB/s
ncftp /NASCAR > get NascarBook_withThumbnails.pdf
NascarBook_withThumbnails.pdf: 57.46 MB 9.99 MB/s
Yes, that’s real world performance.
Q. What are your hours of support?
A. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q. Do you offer a money back guarantee?
A. Yes, 30 day full refund.
Q. What pre-installed software comes with the VDS?
A. The Cpanel control panel install everything most typically required including, but not limited to, Apache, Bind, MySQL, PHP, and Exim or Qmail. We have many templates available for easy installation - if you need something just let us know.
Q. Can I install my own software?
A. Yes. For all intents and purposes this is a full blown Linux server.
Q. Do I have 'root' access?
A. Yes.
Q. Do I have ‘SSH’ access?
A. Yes.
Q. Can I upgrade the installed software?
A. Yes.
Q. Is Myriad Network a reseller?
A. We are definitely not a reseller. We own every piece of gear in our network. From the Cisco switches to the Dell Power Edge servers, everything is owned solely by us. The only thing we purchase from an outside party is the rack space within each datacenter and the bandwidth.
Q. Can I upgrade service levels as I need without having to reinstall and configure everything every time?
A. Yes. Our VDS packages are upgradeable without a moment’s downtime.
Q. What control panels do you offer?
A. Cpanel/WHM (http://www.cpanel.net) with Fantastico (http://netenberg.com/fantastico.php); Direct Admin (http://directadmin.com/) and Webmin (http://webmin.com/)
Q. What version of Virtuozzo are you using?
