Scenario: You are a reseller with the domain 'example.com' and would like your customers to use the nameservers 'ns1.example.com' and 'ns2.example.com'. Your domain 'example.com' was registered at domain registrar dotster.com.

Step 1
Refer to your welcome email which contains the IP addresses of our nameservers. Typically, they are:

209.9.232.2
216.15.189.67

Step 2
Login to your registrars website (where you purchased your domain name from) and look for the 'register name servers' page. Follow the registrar's instructions for registering your two name servers.. Do NOT use the IP addresses assigned to your account as they will NOT work. If you need assistance or are unsure about what exactly needs to be done you can refer to our step by step videos online at http://my.myriadnetwork.com/?x=help_videos under the "Creating Nameservers" section. If you remain unclear as to the steps necessary to register nameservers please contact your registrar directly.

In the above scenario, using domain 'example.com' and nameservers ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com you would register the following

ns1.example.com - 209.9.232.2
ns2.example.com - 216.15.189.67

Step 3
Registered nameservers typically take 24 hours or longer before they are available for use. To check the status of your registered nameservers go to http://registrar.verisign-grs.com/whois/. From this page enter the host name of your name server in the "Whois" box.

Using the above scenario with the domain 'example.com' and nameservers 'ns1.example.com' and 'ns2.example.com' you would enter 'ns1.example.com' in the "Search Registry Whois:" box. Directly under that box select the radio button next to "NameServer" and hit the submit button.

If your name server has been successfully registered and your registrar has updated the information you will see output similar to:

Server Name: ns1.example.com
IP Address: 209.9.232.2

Go back and repeat the above steps to verify your second name server is also successfully registered.

One word of caution - do not change any of your domains to these registered nameservers until you have verified they exist with the correct IP addresses.
