While my resources are far from maxed out with my current (basic reseller) account, I'd nonetheless like to know what would be involved if I wanted to migrate everything I currently have under my reseller account onto a VDS.
What would I have to do? What would you do? Costs for your part in migrating things?
Migrating from shared hosting to a VDS is generally a very painless task. As customers have root access on their VDS servers, they can use WHM to transfer their accounts over. All that's needed is to enter the domain name (or IP address), username, and password for the account, and cPanel will package up the entire account and transfer it over. This includes all email, web content, databases, mailing lists, and so on. The last thing that needs to be done is for the customer to update DNS for their domains.
Note that these details are for a cPanel based VDS. In the event the customer is using Direct Admin, webmin, or no panel at all, the process would include manually transferring the content to the VDS via FTP or SCP. There is no cost involved, as we do not assist with the transfer to the VDS. It's a very simple process.
