SW-Soft, the makers of Virtuozzo have released some critical updates to the Virtuozzo software. We will be applying the updates which require rebooting the servers over the course of the next couple evenings starting at 11pm EDT.

Total downtime for each server is expected to be less than 30 minutes.

I apologize for the late notice but as I say above some of these are critical (security) related updates that need to be applied soonest.

Thanks for your patience.

Tom

VPS4 is currently being rebooted.

Jeff

Due to our lengthy uptimes (230 days for VPS4), the server is currently running a forced "fsck" (file system check) of the /vz partition. Once that's complete, the server will be rebooted once more and I will post when everything is back up. This is going to take some time and is a necessary task for the server.

Just a side note: the security notification from SWSoft came in last night to us via email, not long before we began the updates. We take these types of issues very seriously for the protection of our servers and our customers, hence the short notice. Your patience is appeciated while VPS4 continues to fsck, thanks.

Just a quick update - the fsck is still running, and is still going to take a bit to complete. Long uptimes + big servers = fs checks that take a little while to run. We do apologize for any inconvenience and will update again as necessary. Thank you all for your patience.

Hi - I realize this maintenance is taking much longer than the 30 minutes we anticipiated however, every other server took 7 - 9 minutes total. This server has large (300GB) SCSI drives and its taking a while to fsck the entire file system.

Currently we are ~60% complete and expect to have the server back online prior to 1am EDT.

Thanks for your continued patience.

Sorry folks, VPS6 is being rebooted once more, as the smp kernel was loaded (which only supports up to around 3GB of physical mem), and not the enterprise kernel (which supports the full 8GB). If you noticed things running a little slower after the prior reboot, this is why. If you didn't, then those SAS drives were well worth the money :) Will update you shortly.

Do SwSoft release updates like this that often, just curious what uptime level i'd have.

The downtime isn't a problem, but am curious on what scale updates that require a reboot come out on.

These types of updates are not released very often, no. If you look back over all the threads from day 1 in this section of the forum, you will see when each server has been rebooted, including shared hosting servers. It doesn't happen very often. 99% of the time reboots are done for critical upgrades.

VPS4 had a 230 day uptime, and the previous uptime was 205. I'd assume that most of the others are the same =]
