Hi All,

Firstly hello to you all - I have just signed up for the VDS hosting (unmanaged).

My question concerns my main account (domain name).

I have gone through the process of registering my name servers - actually child name servers with my registrar Directi - and they are showing as registered with the correct I.P. addresses, I have then updated with Directi to point to my new name servers.

I have made the changes through my WHM to the DNS record for my name and also added Cname entries for www and mail and an A record for ftp.

Is there anything else I should be doing - it's been a while since I administered a *nix based server?

That's pretty much it -

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=ns1.hostinguncle.com&type=A

Domain Type Class TTL Answer
ns1.hostinguncle.com. A IN 172800 208.67.81.238
hostinguncle.com. NS IN 172800 ns1.hostinguncle.com.
hostinguncle.com. NS IN 172800 ns2.hostinguncle.com.
ns1.hostinguncle.com. A IN 172800 208.67.81.238
ns2.hostinguncle.com. A IN 172800 208.67.81.239

Everything there looks good!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks - the only thing that was worrying me is the Child Name Server thing at Directi and the propagation time.

The domain doesn't seem to be propagated yet.

The way I read the instructions at Directi, is that maybe I should be creating entries to their main name servers in my DNS record.

Brian

I'm not familiar with Directi, so you may want to contact them for clarification. That said, when you register nameservers, they can take up to 72 hours to propagate. They tend to take longer to propagate than other DNS updates.

Hi Jeff,

Ok, I will wait for the 72 hours to see how it goes - thanks.
